Description

Increase the amount of information about a train run by using GPS location information

The smart service focus on the improvement of train running information. With adding position information from the wagon and the locomotive the logic is evaluate and coorect to confirm an inaccurate train running information. The add-on will help to close gaps and erroneous information and will increase the reliability of TRI information in operation.

Use Case

Train monitor approves TRI

The comparison with location information will either

  • confirm or
  • reject

the IM sent Train Running information. This will increase the data quality of TRI messages.

Train monitor inserts TRI

Between two IM sent Train Running information the logic can fill up the gap with GPS based TRI messages. Especially in exceptional situations a reliable independent train position and running information is important. This will help the operational staff to define the appropriate measures.

Preconditions

  • SM_23 needs to deliver open, standarized position information.

Basic Services

  • Open position information: SM_23 needs to deliver open, standardized position information.
  • Track position: The translation of the GPS position to the correct track position (geo fencing) must be ensured.
  • Tran relation: The relation between the wagon/locomotive to the correct train must be prepared.

Dependencies

This is maybe a following up topic after the smart service #23 is realized.

Planned Steps

The logic to control and enhance Train Running information relies on

  • IM sent TRI
  • Train composition information
  • GPS location information

In the first step the overall message flow must be sketched in the architecture domain.

Evaluation

  • Frank Kschonsak on 25 June

GPS based localization for locos is already in place. For wagons technical and organizational issues have seemed to be too complex to find solutions until now. It is the questions, if TAF/TSI based solutions, based on the infrastructure provider, are of higher quality and therefore preferred. In summary too high error-potential for this technical solution from our perspective. With the implementation of assisted break-test and DAC, GPS tracking of wagons might become a viable solution.
